About Yoshitoshi

Tsukioka Yoshitoshi’s career crossed the final years of the Edo period and the early Meiji era—a time when Japan was undergoing profound change.

His work brings together heroic history and haunting folklore, the drama of kabuki and the small gestures of everyday life. Traditional woodblock printing became a medium for an intensely individual imagination.
