Ōkubo Hikozaemon Tadataka protects the Tokugawa shōgun from the spear of Gotō Matabei Mototsugu. The correct reading, and meaning, of the subtitle, are currently uncertain. The 'saka' character used in the main title is not the normal one use for Ōsaka (at least not currently). A number of sources give the name of the right-hand person as "Gorō" (後藤 又兵衞 基次), but this is incorrect - it is actually "Gotō".
